From abdominal rigidity, through headache, merycism (rumination), and purpura to yawning, it is all here—all you ever wanted to know about clinical diagnosis and did not have the time to find out. Reviewing this tenth edition of French's classic is akin to reviewing the Bible or the Encyclopedia Britannica. Who can dare say aught against it? But even the editor himself has a little doubt. "Is there any place today in modern medicine for this type of book?" he asks in his preface. Probably, but perhaps this question should be confidently answered before another revision appears.
