A volume like the present one serves as a useful primer for those persons interested in problems related to human hyperlipoproteinemias. The introductory chapter, which gives a general overview of the subject, is followed by sections dealing with the metabolism of serum lipoproteins, the clinical aspects of primary and secondary hyperlipoproteinemias, the relevance of these disorders to atherogenesis, and finally an outline of the diagnostic methods used in this field. The various chapters are written by the many clinicians and scientists who gave lectures and demonstrations at two postgraduate courses held in Italy in the fall of 1971 and 1972.
