A good book review is a short, good essay. "Indeed," Dr. King once suggested in his essay The Book Review, "a review of only 50 or 60 words may serve admirably. . . . There is no intrinsic value in a 60-word limit, but for acquiring writing discipline, there is a great value in having limits which must be respected." Books are not book reviews, however, and brevity may be damaging. A book intended for specialists in radiology, hematology, and chemotherapy is definitely no place to cut corners.
