To the editor: The paper by Ness and Weiler on the internship and residency application hassle (Ann Intern Med 81:107-109, 1974) brought to mind an experience I had while applying for internship 3 years ago. I visited a major medical center in a large Southeastern city that divides its internship among three hospitals. I was interviewed by a junior resident at one of the hospitals, and no plans had been made for me to meet anyone else.
