May 1974 was designated National Hypertension Month, and widespread screening for hypertension was encouraged by nearly all health care agencies. Plans are currently being made for National Hypertension Month in May 1975, and many community groups are planning blood pressure screening programs. Although hypertension screening accomplishes the first goal of the "Report of the Inter-Society Commission for Heart Disease Resources" (1), namely the identification of individuals with high blood pressure, there has been little published in the way of assessment of the results of hypertension screening procedures.
