In freely admitting that most of the investigations reviewed were made with cytogenetic techniques in conventional use before 1971, the editor states that this is the major deficiency of this compilation. The section on the cytogenetics of certain specific cancers is already outdated, except for the chapter on the cytogenetics of nervous system tumors by J. Mark. The section entitled "Special Approaches" includes well-written chapters on cell hybridization by O. J. Miller and on the Rous sarcoma virus by F. Mitelman.
