The purpose of this volume is to provide a series of critical and timely essays summarizing recent research in selected areas of current interest and controversy. Despite the promise of its title, it is in no sense a comprehensive survey of the physiology of the urinary system, nor does it pretend to be. However, because it is the intent of the publisher to produce new issues of the Review at regular intervals, it is anticipated that in time all important areas in renal and urinary tract physiology will be covered.
