To the editor: The recent paper by Samaan and colleagues (Ann Intern Med 82:205-207, 1975) and the concomitant editorial by Rosen and Weintraub (pp. 274-276) were interesting, but they foster a recent tendency to muddle the distinction between the phenomenon of multiple endocrine neoplasia with that of ectopic hormone production and so to infer a common pathophysiology.
