In recent years the term "sick sinus syndrome" has been applied to a spectrum of clinical-electrocardiographic abnormalities that have as their basis dysfunction of the sinoatrial node. In this short monograph, Dr. Ferrer attempts to correlate the anatomic and electrophysiologic properties of the sinus node with the variety of clinical manifestations that have collectively become recognized as the sick sinus syndrome.
The text is clearly written and provides a comprehensive analysis of the fundamental pathophysiologic mechanisms resulting in sinus node dysfunction. Carefully chosen electrocardiograms are employed as an extremely effective mode of translating complex electrophysiologic mechanisms into easily understood concepts.
