A splendid anthology of 49 germinal, innovative and "classic" papers (in facsimile) on cardiac and vascular functions and methods for their study. Virtually all of the papers are from the 20th century; exceptions are Harvey's de Motu Cordis, Fick's note on his "principle" (1870), G. N. Stewart's paper on circulation time (1897), Riva-Rocci's "A New Sphygmomanometer" (1896), and Waller's on electric changes with the heart beat (1887). Appropriately grouped papers are introduced by editorial comments. Indexes to authors, to authors cited in their papers, and to subjects.
