A succinct, thoughtful analysis of diagnostic approaches to abdominal pains seen in a pediatric practice, based on carefully recorded clinical experience. Despite its lack of statistical rigor, the analysis convincingly illustrates both the complexity of clinical assessment and the need to skirt facile assumptions. The second half considers the positions taken in the first half in the light of other clinical literature.
