Seventeen chapters comprising papers by leading scholars in the field of
chromatin structure and function, who met at the Ciba Foundation, London, England, 3 to 5 April 1974. The
participants discussed chromasomal structure; isolated chromatin and its tissue specific activity; histone
chemistry, function and evolution; and nonhistone protein metabolism. N.M.R. spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction
studies on chromatin structure are reviewed and models for chromatin function are proposed. Each chapter
concludes with a complete bibliography including titles and discussion. There is a complete subject index at
the conclusion of the text.
