In the light of recent advances in understanding of liver function and malfunction, the editor has attempted to bring together a variety of scholarly reviews in a two-part monograph to serve as a "landmark" reference source citing progress made and indicating some new frontiers. The 11 topic reviews in Part B catalogue much information but the text suffers from lack of cohesiveness, being highly selective in subject and falling short of a comprehensive overview of the function and malfunction of the liver.
