The year 1975 marks the 100th anniversary of the original description of the association of Entamoeba histolytica with human illness, and this monograph on amebiasis might have been a fitting tribute. Unfortunately, this book adds little to the occasion. Nine contributors, including six from Guatemala, have authored 13 chapters on various aspects of amebiasis: history, epidemiology, biology and pathology, clinical features and complications, laboratory procedures, and prevention.
