World War II Stimulated Major Changes and growth in psychiatry and the public acceptance of mentally ill patients. Although initially undeveloped as a branch of military medicine at the onset of the war, psychiatry soon attained important organizational status as a medical discipline and valuable consultative function to the command and administration of the military.
