Dr. Raw's approach to the study of anemia is unique. The aim of his book is showing how one disease can serve as a focus for integrating a number of disciplines. In his preface Dr. Raw describes this book as part of an attempt "to challenge medical education to move away from its traditional structure by merging the basic and clinical sciences and rebuilding them into single learning units." His attempt has been quite successful.
