It is general consensus that practitioners of an art or profession are qualified to disseminate the results of those experiences to their colleagues. This is what Dr. Forrest has aimed to do with this book, which is offered as a definitive treatise, serving as a manual of what we know and how to use it. His book has shortcomings, some of which might have been overcome by more stringent editing, but the internist who wades through its often scholastic prose (which descends at surprising points to the vernacular) can learn a good deal about the care of an alcoholic patient.
