To the editor: The Life Sciences Research Office of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology is conducting a study for the Bureau of Foods, Food and Drug Administration, on the "Nutritional Significance of Refined Carbohydrates and Dietary Fiber and Their Role in the Prevention or Induction of Gastrointestinal Pathology." In addition to the effects on the gastrointestinal tract, attention will be given to cardiovascular-renal and oncologic considerations, as well as to the question of hypersensitivity to dietary carbohydrates and fiber in children and adults.
