The exigencies of today's student schedules and curricula make it extremely difficult to do justice in teaching any branch of clinical medicine, particularly pulmonary disease. Students and house officers today are exposed to the service just long enough to "catch" an interest in the field, but little more. Since one of the inherent charms of pulmonary medicine is the multi-faceted approach to diagnosis, it is a shame that time is insufficient to give adequate critical exposure to the many diagnostic techniques.
