To the editor: Kanada and associates make no mention of prior antihypertensive therapy in the 14 patients described in their article on angina-like syndrome with diazoxide therapy for hypertensive crisis (Ann Intern Med 84:696-699, 1976). Had any of these patients been on medications such as Apresoline®, Aldomet®, propranolol, or clonidine before their hypertensive crisis? Might the use of these medications at the time of admission, or just before, predispose to the development of the "angina-like syndrome"?
