The number of physicians specifically trained for emergency room work is still quite small. As more are recruited from the "conventional" areas of medicine, there will be a genuine need for a text aimed at orienting the physician of some experience to problems indigenous to, and frequent in the setting of, the emergency room. This seems to be such a book. Its 26 chapters have been written principally by physicians fom the Albany Medical College, with a few "guest" authors. Its scope seems adequate.
