Anyone familiar with the first four volumes of this series (and who with an interest in liver physiology or disease is not) will know what to expect in this fifth volume. In glancing through the contents of previous volumes, from 1972 back to 1961, I am struck by the way the titles weave in and out around various themes, only occasionally duplicating specific topics and then with different authors. And the authors are continually changing, old familiar names
