This first american edition of a British text is written to provide pharmacologic principles and drug information that is useful for both medical students and practicing physicians. The present pharmacology texts do not bridge this gap, requiring many pharmacology departments to develop their own syllabi for basic and clinical pharmacology. Pharmacologic teaching for clinicians has vastly improved with publication of AMA Drug Evaluations and therapeutic reviews like those in the drug spotlight program, but a reference source would be very helpful.
This text fulfills this role best in the initial chapters, "Corpus of Pharmacology," and in the final section, "Drugs
