Dr. Hamburger has attempted to produce a manual that would enable the practicing physician to diagnose and treat the more common thyroid disorders and to exclude thyroid dysfunction in the evaluation of a wide variety of symptoms and signs. As the author indicates, "This is not a textbook of thyroidology."
The easily read text is divided into concise topical sections: tests, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, nodule, cancer, and so on. These headings appear on tabs that provide easy access to the section of interest. Considerable use is made of algorithms or flow sheets to outline approaches to a variety of thyroid problems.
