To the editor: I found the recent paper by Roche-Sicot and Benhamou (Ann Intern Med 86:301-303, 1977) interesting. However, in reading the case reports, I wondered how disseminated intravascular coagulation was excluded as an explanation for the intravascular hemolysis and hypoprothrombinemia.
The occurrence of disseminated intravascular coagulation with tissue necrosis is recognized (1), and its association with hepatotoxicity is known (2).
