This proceedings of the International Symposium on Intestinal Ion Transport held at Titisee, West Germany, in May 1975. Presentations is divided into four sections: 1) biochemical mechanisms and electrophysiologic techniques involved in sodium pumping and other ion transport systems, with kinetic models and discussion of coupling between sodium and nonelectrolyte transport; 2) modification of intestinal ion and water absorption by pharmacologic and pathophysiologic methods; 3) mechanisms of adaptation of different species and their effect on understanding of intestinal ion transport; 4) normal and abnormal human intestine, with absorption studies. Short list of references and question-and-answer discussion after each chapter.
