Leaders in the field of hepatology throughout the world have combined their efforts to prepare a system of nomenclature that simplifies terminology and establishes reliable diagnostic criteria within a comprehensive clinicopathologic framework. Each section describes a class of disorders, such as hepatitis, fibrosis, cirrhosis, or cholestasis. The diagnostic criteria for specific diseases are then listed, and "accepted" and "rejected" synonyms are identified. A section on diagnostic methods is also provided.
