To the editor: The history of Baron Munchausen and his "syndrome" continues to be intriguing. The recent erudite remarks of Dr. Taegtmeyer (1) on the correct spelling of Munchausen need some amplification. The controversial single or double "aitch" issue was discussed in the third edition of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (2). In the introduction, T. Teignmouth Shore considers the question and states, ". . . I cannot find, in even the oldest English edition, that there has been any variation from the familiar spelling—Munchausen.
