This introduction to the field of hepatology was written for medical students and physicians whose interests and needs lie in a concise and basic text on liver disorders. The authors have aimed at a broad and up-to-date coverage, and they have succeeded.
The succinct presentation of information and the references, both general and specific, are admirable. The sections on hepatitis, cholestasis, hepatic coma, alcoholic liver disease and drug-induced liver disease deserve special mention. However, a more critical discussion of the place of steroids in the treatment of chronic active hepatitis would have been helpful for the general reader.
