When strauss and Welt's Diseases of the Kidney appeared less than 15 years ago, it was the first comprehensive textbook in clinical nephrology. Since then, the growth of the discipline has been paralleled by the publication of textbooks in renal disease that range from elementary to encyclopedic. Forland's Nephrology strikes a middle ground. It includes discussion of all of the major areas in clinical nephrology yet remains brief enough (average chapter length, 21 pages) to be a quick source of information for the non-nephrologist faced with a problem in renal disease. All five contributors are current or former faculty members
