To the editor: The title of the article "Effect of Estrogens and Calcium Carbonate on Bone Loss in Postmenopausal Women" by Recker and coauthors in the December 1977 volume is misleading. The patients were treated with both estrogen and methyltestosterone. A follow-up study using the same design but treating patients with either estrogen or methyltestosterone and comparing the effect with untreated controls or calcium carbonate-treated subjects would be of interest.
"Effect of Sex Hormones and Calcium Carbonate on Bone Loss in Postmenopausal Women" would have been a more accurate and less misleading title.
