Volume I covers in 11 chapters the ways that acute and chronic diseases in children and adolescents affect the patients' views of themselves, their psychosocial development, and parents' and siblings' reactions to them, in different diseases and at different stages of diseases. Of special interest to internists are chapters on psychologic problems encountered in juvenile diabetes, renal disease, malignant disease, and pulmonary disorders (asthma and cystic fibrosis). Volume II presents in eight chapters descriptions of hyperactivity, dyslexia, other sensorineural conditions, and consequences of child abuse and divorce, with pertinent assessment procedures and management.
