This issue carries an unusual and provocative article (pp. 10-13) by Portlock and Rosenberg describing their experience with a "hands-off therapeutic approach to selected patients with good-prognosis forms of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Their article analyzes a 15-year experience with 44 patients in whom therapy was withheld until necessitated by progression of disease; this study contrasts with the general trend of clinical research in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which in recent years has been concerned with the application of intensive, and possibly curative, therapy at the time of diagnosis.
