To the editor: A "natural history" follows the introduction of a new or innovative diagnostic technology as reported in the medical literature and may be described as follows:  initial reports exploring potential applications of the technology;  enthusiasts seeking and reporting advantages and usefulness of the new technology;  objective reports of the limitations or errors of such technology; and  correct clarification of the technology with regard to its indications, limitations, and adjunctive value for the practicing clinician.
