Most of the 11 detailed reviews in this volume will be useful only to academic specialists in coagulation research, but two will be useful for clinicians. The last review, by David A. Gilbert and associates, deals with well-established and new, experimental methods for treatment of acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The review on prothrombin by Sander S. Shapiro and Susannah McCord deals with a summary of hereditary dysprothrombinemias. Because of the potential clinical importance in the developments it summarizes, the review "Prostaglandins and Thromboxanes" may be of interest to clinicians concerned with thrombotic and bleeding problems.
