Although a few members of this haute coterie of the northeastern U.S. medical establishment are more notable for their social connections than for conceptual fertility, most of them have been leaders in American clinical science of the twentieth century. Most of the catalog-like account of their meetings will catch few readers but the biographical sketches of members will be a useful resource for the history of U.S. medicine in its years of explosive academic expansion and high scientific productivity. Some of the meeting summaries do offer insights into the problems and attitudes of medical educators and indeed these informal vignettes
