To the editor: The article by Simkin and associates in the July issue (1) discussed a common problem in clinical medicine and provoked much conversation among the physicians here. Answers to the following questions may permit more complete acceptance of the spot uric-acid excretion ratio as clinically useful.
What literature is available on the time course—relative and absolute—of uric acid and creatinine release and excretion over a 24-h period?
