A primer of diagnosis and treatment in the medical care of ambulatory patients. Chapters on presenting manifestations of disease, on syndromes, and on aspects of patient-physician relations. Has some good, succinct chapters, such as that on the needs peculiar to care of aged patients. Some sections suffer from stuffy, jargon-laden prose. Acceptable as a quickly read guide for students and beginning house officers to the principles of outpatient practice, but the competent primary-care physician will need more than this big-pocket manual in his or her library.
