Judgment, problem solving, and decision making have been studied intensively in the past four decades, finding application in economics, business, engineering, and psychology. Herbert Simon received the 1978 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work in problem solving and decision making. Because there was not a basic text in this area, nine faculty members of Tufts University (from the disciplines of engineering design, economics, philosophy, psychology, social psychology, political science, medicine, and pediatrics) wrote this book, which is based on an undergraduate course.
