I can only assume that Dr. Schuckit's typist had access to a computer-based text editor. How else could 193 pages of text, liberally interspersed with tables, headings, references, and repetitions, be wed to a seven-page table of contents and a 16-page index? The fulsome index is misleading. I looked up ethchlorvynol and found five detailed entries (for example, "delayed metabolism," "as CNS depressant''). Of these five entries, three were tabular listings and the remainder constituted two sentences. The index entries nearly equalled the length of text.
