One's first thought on seeing a book on the general subject of ischemic heart disease is, why another one? In this text of 66 chapters by 79 contributors, however, the comprehensive coverage is evident and reflects the calibre of the distinguished editors and their contributions to the field. There are extensive discussions of pathophysiology, diagnostic tests including both invasive and noninvasive techniques, as well as medical and surgical treatment of both chronic and acute coronary heart disease. A considerable portion is devoted to methods used to assess the size of infarction and their value and role in managing patients.
