Advocates of eugenics used to consider it proper to sterilize epileptics in order to prevent genetic transmission of the "taint." However, the evidence supporting a genetic basis for epilepsy is flimsy. This evidence is reviewed by Newmark and Penry in a book that can be read in a single sitting. Results of the various studies of genetic aspects of epilepsy are shown in tables that present some idea of the percent affected by seizures among relatives of epileptics.
