To the editor: Weinstein (1) has rightly pointed out the extraordinary increase in knowledge of the "new" pneumonia agents (2) after the identification of Legionella pneumophila. We have investigated the limulus gelation ability of many members of these "new" bacterial pathogens. In a preliminary approach (3) we have studied suspensions of nonviable, heat killed organisms (100°C for 60 minutes) including HEBA, WIGA, and TATLOCK agents (kindly provided by Dr. K. M.
