On the night before surgery, as the patient lay in bed, the surgeon came to his side. "Tomorrow we shall remove one breast," the surgeon said. "We shall sever and excise it, and when this is done the disease that oppresses you will be cured. This is what the operation will accomplish."
The patient looked at his breast. He nodded. He said to the surgeon, "And then the disease will be ended, and then I shall be cured. Is that not so?"
