Immunoglobulins prepared from human plasma are available for prophylaxis against the development of hepatitis A and hepatitis B. This recommendation statement briefly reviews the characteristics of both of these types of viral hepatitis and gives specific advice on both pre-exposure prophylaxis and postexposure prophylaxis. The question of prophylaxis for nonspecific hepatitis and non-A, non-B hepatitis is briefly discussed.
