To the editor: I have read with interest the debate in your journal about why nurses seem not to want to nurse. None of the male authors have mentioned a major economic reason obvious to those of us with working spouses and who fill our their own federal income-tax forms. Why is child care not an honest business expense, especially for the divorced or otherwise single woman? Men hire secretaries to manage their busy schedules and hire others to do their manual labor; salaries of those hired are considered legitimate business expenses.
