Rather than a textbook, this work might be better characterized as a collection of 12 monographs, written by 24 authors. The first monograph covers historical and clinical aspects of peritoneal dialysis; the second, anatomy and physiology of the interface between capillary blood and fluid in the the peritoneal space. Following monographs cover the peritoneal transport, ultrafiltration, clinical application and results of intermittent peritoneal dialysis, and chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. A monograph on the theoretical basis for drug actions on peritoneal transport is followed by a "potpourri" monograph on dialysis solution composition, antibiotic transport, poisoning, and novel uses of peritoneal dialysis.
