This first volume of a two-part series presents an introduction to M-mode and two dimensional (2D) echocardiography plus a review of the echocardiographic diagnosis of major forms of congenital heart disease. The text is in an abbreviated prose format, accompanied by the excellent illustrations of the medical illustrator Bernard Tardieu. Each 2D photographic image is accompanied by an appropriate and lucid line drawing of the photographic frame.
