The authors have shown a superb awareness of the complexity involved in the technique and interpretation of skeletal and total-body soft-tissue nuclear imaging. In the past decade, total-body nuclear imaging has developed from a relatively infrequently ordered procedure to the most commonly ordered static-imaging study. This increase in frequency was directly related to the development of 99m Tc-labeled bone-seeking radiopharmaceutical products by Subramanian in 1971 and the subsequent development of efficient and high-resolution total-body imaging scintillation cameras by the equipment manufacturers.
