The Surgeon General's report, Healthy People, enumerated seven of the ten leading causes of death in the United States that could be substantially reduced if persons at risk controlled five factors: diet, smoking, lack of exercise, alcohol abuse, and control of hypertension.
The 28 contributors have produced a how-to-do-it guide to health promotion that addresses the areas identified in the Surgeon General's report. This book provides a review of underlying principles and detailed descriptions of pragmatic techniques for health promotion, and should be received enthusiastically by health practitioners.
